Method 1: Use Hive Stands with Water Moats

This is the single most effective method to protect beehives from ants.

Place each hive leg inside a container filled with water or used engine oil. Ants cannot swim or cross oil. When they try to crawl up the stand leg, they reach the moat and stop.

To make this work:

  • Use four tin cans or plastic containers, one for each hive leg.

Freeze Stored Combs
